Add and remove apps in your organization

10 min

By the end of this lesson, you'll be able to:

  • Demonstrate how to add an Atlassian app to your organization
  • Demonstrate how to remove an Atlassian app from your organization
  • Demonstrate how to delete an entire site

Add apps to a site

Org admins and site admins are the only users able to add Atlassian apps to sites. They can only add one instance of an Atlassian app in each site.
To add an Atlassian app to a site:
  1. In the admin hub, from the sidebar, expand Apps, then select Atlassian apps.
  2. From the top right of the page, click Add app.
  3. From the list of apps, select the app you want to add to your organization, then click Add app or Try it now.
  4. Choose whether to create a new site or to use an existing one.
  5. Enter the new site name or select one of the existing ones.
  6. Click Next to add the app to your site.

If the selected app is already on all the sites in your organization, you will only have the option to create a new site.

What happens after you add an Atlassian app?

Adding an app to your site will lead to the automatic creation of the default access group for that app.
馃憠 For example: Charlie, an org admin for the ACME organization, adds Jira to the acme site. Once he adds Jira, then Atlassian:
  • Adds Jira to the acme site under a free trial plan.
  • Redirects Charlie to the app setup page.
  • Creates the default access groups for Jira:
    • jira-users-acmeuk
    • Jira-user-access-admins-acme-uk
  • Creates the Jira Administration app.
  • Creates the default access groups for Jira Administration:
    • jira-admins-acmeuk

Remove Atlassian apps from your site

An org admin or site admin might need to remove an Atlassian app from a site due to the lack of use or for billing reasons. They can do this by canceling the subscription of the app.
Canceling an app subscription will delete all its data. An org admin or site admin should export any data before removing the app as this step is irreversible.
To cancel an app subscription as an org admin:
  1. From the admin hub, select Billing from the sidebar.
  2. Locate the app you want to remove, paying attention to the site name under the app, then click Manage to manage the subscriptions.
  3. Click the More actions menu (represented by 路路路), then select Deactivate. Review and confirm the cancellation of the subscription.
Atlassian removes the app and cancels its subscription either immediately or after a given amount of time, as indicated in the confirmation message. This depends on the subscription cloud plan.
When you cancel a subscription, it's deactivated 15 days after the end of your current subscription period.
馃憠 For example: The next bill date for your Jira Standard subscription is November 13th. If you cancel the subscription on November 5th, the cancelation will be scheduled for November 13th, and the data will be deleted 15 days after cancelation.

Managing subscriptions is different for Enterprise cloud plans as apps with an Enterprise plan are billed at the organization level and not separately.

Maintain apps on your site

The user who creates the new organization and site will see prompts to create or update configurations within the chosen app, in addition to the automatic configurations.
馃憞 Click the tabs below to learn about the prompts each app has.
If you add Jira as an Atlassian app to your site, you鈥檒l see a prompt to create your first space.
Once you鈥檝e created your organization and site and added your apps, you can choose to add more apps. However, as mentioned, you can't add the same app twice in one site.
馃憠 For example: Hal has three sites within his Woozelmania organization. When Hal goes to the pricing page and adds Confluence, he will see the site for woozle-france.atlassian.net, but not woozle-india.atlassian.net, or woozle-spain.atlassian.net as the sites already have the Confluence app.
馃憞This is the structure of the Woozelmania organization.

Cancel a site

If you aren't using a site, you may need to cancel it. An org admin can cancel any site. The site admin can only cancel the site they are administering.
To cancel a site, you need to cancel all app subscriptions in that site then contact Atlassian support to completely delete the site.
